Background: A vBulletin private mail message was sent to about 1,000 users from the BBS early Monday morning 3/15/2010.
Solution:The BBS will be offline until we assure that this is contained properly and apologize for inconvenience.
The mail message itself DOES NOT contain a virus. The mail message DOES point to a virus web site. Please do not open the mail message, or click on the link, or download software from the virus site, or run that software on your system. To get into trouble, you would have to take all these steps.
Please just delete the mail message. It will come from a user you don't know, a "MichealTracy". Like all spam from users you don't know, you should just delete the message. The only thing "legitimate" from this particular E-Mail is that it was sent from the Siemens BBS.
We are locking down the BBS such that Student Edition and Solid Edge Free2D users DO NOT have access to the "Who's Online" feature. We may restrict this further to Webkey users.
The user (which will be banned) manually registered as a student and then proceeded to download the active membership list (our mistake in allowing access to the membership list to students). He then sent about 1,000 private messages from the system pointing users to his virus site.
By removing the user and restricting the membership list, we should be able to contain this going forward.
